West Haven High School Blue Devil Band News:
J.A.M.: In honor of April being Jazz Appreciation Month the West Haven High School Blue Devil Jazz Band will present "An Evening of Jazz" on Thursday, April 29that 7:00pm. This concert will feature guest performances by the Bailey Middle School Jazz Ensemble and the Carrigan Middle School Jazz Kats.

Congratulations: The West Haven High School Band would like to congratulate our own Chris Arminio on his successfully reaching the rank of Eagle Scout.
More Congratulations: The West Haven High School Band would also like to congratulation our own Eric Pang, this year's Mr. Westie 2010!
Even More Congratulations: The West Haven High School Band would like to further congratulation our dear friend Mrs. Margi Maher, who will be honored by the Jimmy Fund on April 30th for service to our community. The awards ceremoney will be held at the West Haven Italian American Club. Tickets are $35 each. Please contact Maureen Blake at Savin Rock Community School for more information.
Performance Essays: All Blue Devil Band Members are required to attend one outside performance (music, theater, dance) per marking period Students must submit a brief essay about the performance that they attended as well as a program or ticket stub. Participation in outside performances also fulfills this requirement. Students participating in additional performances must also submit a brief essay pertaining to their performance experiences. Marking period 4 essays are due by June 14th.
Performance Quizzes: All Blue Devil Band Members are required to complete 1-2 performance quizzes per marking period. Musicians and Color Gaurd members may schedule these quizzes during a free period or after school. Students may complete these quizzes in groups of no more than 4. Musicians will be required to perform Major Scales as well as sections of current music. No music will have to be memorized. Color Guard members will be required to perform one current routine of their choice. Marking period 4 performance quizzes are due on April 30th and again on May 28th.
Private Lessons: All Blue Devil Band Members receiving private instrumental music instruction are entitled to extra credit. Students must sumit a letter from their private instructor each marking period in order to receive this extra credit. This letter should indicate the legnth and frequency of lessons as well as briefly outline what is being covered. Students and/or parents wishing to receive more information regarding private instructors in the area should contact Ms. Marcella.
Full W.H.H.S. Band Calendars Now Available Online: Please be sure to check out our "Dates to be Remembered" page and download pdf. files of our full calendars. These calendars will have all rehearsal, performance, meeting, and fundraiser dates.
W.H.H.S.B.P.A.: The West Haven High School Band Parent's Association meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00pm in the W.H.H.S. "Skip Crabtree" Band Room. Everyone is encouraged to get involved and welcome to attend these meetings. Membership dues are $10 per family per year. Checks should be made payable to W.H.H.S.B.P.A.
The Marissa Matrisciano Memorial Scholarship: The Marissa Matrisciano Memorial Scholarship will be awarded each year to a graduating senior for excellence in service to the West Haven High School Band above and beyond the call of duty. Donations to this fund may be sent to W.H.H.S. 1 McDonough Plaza, West Haven CT, 06516 C/O C. Marcella. Checks should be made payable to W.H.H.S. with "Matrisciano Scholarship" in the memo portion of the check.
